APRIL MUD SEASON and MAY BARN DANCES
Put on your dancing shoes, and come to the last 2 Bradford Community Barn Dances! Sarah Nelson and Tom Moreau will entertain the dancers with their old -time tunes at the next barn dance, scheduled for Friday, April 18th. Alice Morris will call the dances. Meet new friends and neighbors - have fun. The LAST dance of the season will happen on Friday May 16th with the Sugar River Band and caller Alice Morris.

The Bradford Barn dances are offered by the Bradford Parks and Recreation Department. Dances take place at the Kearsarge Regional Elementary School; 7 to 10:30 pm. Beginner dances will be from 7pm to 8:30 pm followed by a potluck snack/ intermission, and raffle drawing. More complex dances follow the break. Admission is $5.00, seniors and students $3.00. Children under 5 are $2.00. Bring a potluck snack or dessert. to share.


WANTED
Donations of very good gardening items/tools to be used in the Multigenerational Community Garden planned for the spring at the Bradford Area Community Center. Wheelbarrow/garden cart, rototiller, lumber for raised beds, aged composted manure and soil , rakes, hoes, spades, trowels, composter, hoses, trellis, etc..Call Kate 938-6228 .

MAY IS HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER
Presentations, demonstations activities and information on various topics each Thursday in May - beginning May 1.Call the BACC for more information.

BACC Digital Camera Clique or The DCC at BACC
 Looking for local users of digital cameras that like to take pictures and discuss them with other people to provide feedback, ideas and fun.  Group will meet once a week or twice a month depending on interest and go on several local field trips per month to take pictures in-mass for discussion at the following meeting.
  All are welcome. Sense of humor is required!  Knowledge of computer is helpful, i.e. being able to put your digital pictures on disk or thumb drive to bring for discussion. Thursdays at 7:00 PM at the Bradford Area Community Center starting on May 15th, Field trips time/dates to be discussed.

Sunday May 4th, 2008 - THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS ~OPEN HOUSE ~ The Bradford Area Community Center will host an open house for all past, present and future volunteers of the Parks and Recreation Department and Community Center. If you have ever volunteered or would like to volunteer at the Bradford Area Community Center or Bradford Parks and Recreation, please attend the event from 2-4pm. Light refreshments will be served.   
Tuesdays May 6th - Baton classes begin this year on at 3:15 at the Bradford Area Community Center. The instructor, Donna Acker will help participants train for the July 4th Parade in Bradford. Please call Joni at 938-2224 for details. All ages welcome.
Bradford Community Farmer's Market - A NEW Farmers market will take place on the front lawn of the Bradford Area Community Center on Thursdays beginning June 5th from 3-7pm. The market will provide a venue for the sale of locally grown, locally made products and contribute to a sense of community. Vendors are encouraged to apply for spaces now. June 5th 2008 - WALK NH 2008 - A 3 mile walk will kick off the opening day of the Bradford Community Farmer's Market. The walk begins at the Bradford Area Community Center at 4pm and makes a 3 mile loop. Teams with teams are encouraged to form. This Governor- supported statewide   event is aimed to inspire participants to keep walking as a form of wellness. Participants will receive free wellness materials and prizes.
May Health Fair -Displays of health informational materials and handouts will be set up at the Community center each week.  A new speaker will discuss a variety of subjects every Thursday in May at 6 pm - Some of the scheduled topics are as follows:
Pre-hab - with Judy Thackaberry, licensed Physical Therapist. What is Pre-hab? The latest in preparing for total joint replacement. (5/1) VNA

Caring For Mom and Dad ~ with Maureen Strachan, RN, and Ellen Brownson, Outreach Liaison. Ideas, options and support for caring for mom and dad, in your home or theirs. VNA

Telemedicine ~ What is it? How can it help prevent emergency room visits and hospitalizations? (5/1) VNA

Family Nutrition with Ann Merritt, Registered Dietician. Learn how you and your family can eat well and make conscious healthy food choices. (5/8) VNA

Infant and Child Health, with Judy Morrissey, RN, Pediatric Specialist. Judy will discuss the basics of health during the formative years. (5/8) VNA

French's Park Clean-Up -The Parks and Recreation Department seasonal clean up of French's Park will take place on May 31st at 9AM. Meet at French's Park with rake, shovel, and gloves to help get the park ready for summer fun. Lunch will be provided. Call Kate at 938-6228 for more info.

The Bradford Area Community Center is recycling and composting! Paper, cardboard, glass, plastic and cans are being recycled using the wonderful containers provided by Steve Pitman of the Lumber Barn. Composting is taking place in the EarthWay Garden composter (fondly known as Darth Vader) which was donated by Ken Anderson and Lois Kilnapp of the Bradford Transfer Station. Thank you to Bindy and all the folks who support our efforts.

Red Cross Swim Lessons are scheduled for July 21 through August 1 at French's Park beach and put on by the Bradford Parks and Recreation Department. Please look for registration forms around town as we get closer to the date or call Kate at 938-6228
Registration for the NEW Bradford Parks and Recreation,  BACCYard Summer Day Camp is on- going for children ages 6 to 12. Two 3 week sessions will focus on nature- based activities, crafts and skills designed to help youngsters foster independence and earth stewardship. BACCYard Camp starts on July 7th.   Please call Kate for more information and to register. Registration is limited to 12 participants.

Community Gardens at the Bradford Area Community Center -raised garden beds are being created to inspire and promote organic gardening for people of all ages. If you would like to help or be involved, please call Kate at 938-6228. Educational and fun activities will be planned around the gardens.
